Knee pain is a common complaint, often resulting from conditions like osteoarthritis or patellofemoral pain syndrome. Proper management and treatment are crucial to maintaining knee function and preventing further deterioration.
Knee Osteoarthritis:
Osteoarthritis in the knee involves the progressive degeneration of cartilage within the joint, primarily due to ageing, but also more common in individuals with a history of knee injuries. Key symptoms include:
- Loss of Range of Motion: Difficulty in moving the knee through its full range
- Stiffness and Pain: Particularly noticeable during activities
Patellofemoral Pain:
Patellofemoral pain syndrome arises when the patella (kneecap) does not track properly in its groove during knee movement. This misalignment can be caused by factors that place extra strain on the knee joint and the surrounding muscles and ligaments, leading to pain and inflammation.
